Model eligibility checklist
Before you buy: confirm the exact model number is on your utility’s qualified list. Brand marketing ≠ rebate-eligible.
Eligibility filters (plain language)
| Filter | What to check |
|---|---|
| NEEA Tier | WA/OR programs often require Tier 3 or Tier 4 (sometimes “Tier 3 or higher”). Confirm on NEEA Advanced Water Heater Spec lists linked from your utility. |
| BPA QPL | Tacoma Power points at the BPA Qualified Products List for Tier 3/4 hybrids. Use that list when Tacoma is your utility. |
| ENERGY STAR | SCL and others may require ENERGY STAR certification plus Tier 3/4. Use the ENERGY STAR HPWH finder as a discovery tool, then re-check the utility QPL. |
| UEF | Uniform Energy Factor — higher is more efficient. Energy Trust and product sheets publish UEF; your rebate may gate on Tier rather than a raw UEF number. Do not invent a minimum. |
| Tank size | Common residential tanks are often in the ~45–80 gallon range. Household peak demand, recovery rate, and install space matter more than “bigger is always better.” Ask a licensed installer for sizing — not this checklist. |
| Replace what? | Many programs require replacing an existing electric resistance tank (not new construction; gas→HPWH rules vary and may not qualify). Read your utility row. |
| Location | Needs air volume / temp (often garage or basement), condensate drain, and noise tolerance. Cool exhaust air is normal. |
