Homeowner checklist
- Confirm Tacoma Power electric service and that you are replacing a standard electric tank.
- Pick Tier 3/4 on the BPA QPL. See models checklist.
- Choose path early: $500 rebate (DIY or contractor) vs 0% loan vs income deferred package — rules differ (DIY often excluded from loan paths).
- Acquire permits before install (Tacoma states this for the rebate).
- For loan / deferred paths: get bids from Participating Contractors, submit pre-approval, then install.
- Keep invoice showing brand, model, cost, date. File rebate or close out loan docs. Use the paperwork checklist.
Hire licensed when required
Loan and deferred-loan paths require Tacoma Power Participating Contractors. Even on the DIY rebate path, permits and code still apply — hire a licensed plumber/electrician when you are not authorized to do the work.
